Faith takes determination. Determination takes faith. We see in this week’s Gospel how you can’t have one without the other.
A paralyzed man was brought by his friends to Jesus. They had great faith that Jesus could – and would – heal the man. Trouble was, the crowd was so large, the friends couldn’t get near Him. So they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and lowered the paralyzed man down before Him to be healed. Now that’s determination!
Faith takes determination because we often have to overcome obstacles that keep us from reaching Jesus. Our busy lives. The distractions of the world. But our determination can be strengthened by faith itself. We can ask God for help. We can bring our needs to Jesus – without having to go through the roof.
