Scientists estimate the average person makes five choices per minute, adding up to as many as 5,000 choices or decisions every day.
But of all the choices we make, the most important is to choose to love God and one another.
This week's reading from the Book of Jeremiah teaches us about the choice God makes to enter into a covenantal relationship with His people. It is a covenant that is not written on paper, but rather in our hearts. It is a relationship in which He promises, "I will be their God, and they shall be my people".
We enter into and remain in that covenantal relationship with God when we decide to love God and our neighbor. It is Godís love, residing in our hearts, which will help us to do just that. All we have to do is decide to love. The choice is ours.
