There is a powerful message in Luke's gospel this week that peace and communion come from understanding.
We learn of two encounters Jesus had with his followers. In both cases, people are gathered together listening and learning. The followers begin to find peace, not only with God, but with one another. Jesus opened their minds and the followers began to understand.
Jesus tells them "you are witnesses of these things" and they learn that the understanding they have received is to be shared with others.
Christians believe that God desires that all nations, and all people, should share in this peace and communion. Like Jesus, we need to help others to overcome ignorance of God's love, both for every individual and for the entire world.
