We all know about team spirit. When our favorite sports teams play in a big game, the entire community gets caught up in a common cause – to win! High fives are everywhere! Strangers become fast friends as the team spirit takes over.
That kind of community spirit pales in comparison to what happened on Pentecost, as we learn in this week's scripture reading. The Spirit welled up in the disciples of Jesus and they spoke with passion and courage to the crowds. Communication barriers were defeated, strangers came together and the Christian community took root.
We celebrate Christian unity on Pentecost – and the Christian Spirit that is far more powerful and joy-filled than any team spirit ever experienced.
Let the Christian Spirit transform you as it propels us to transform the world around us.
