In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus offers the parable of the mustard seed to teach us that the kingdom of God can come alive through seemingly insignificant things.
Although it is the smallest of seeds, when planted, the mustard seed grows into a large tree so that the birds can dwell under the protection of its branches.
Christians believe that there are many ways we can plant tiny seeds to help God's kingdom grow. Simple things like showing kindness to strangers...nurturing a child in faith...or giving of our time and talents.
Keep in mind, we do the best we can to tend to what is planted, but it is only because of God's power and protection that the seed grows. We can count on that same power and protection to help us grow in faith and love for one another.
