Faith Moment Identity 1

Transcript of audio:

Who are you named after?

Our names underscore our unique identity and often are given to honor a parent, grandparent or relative.

In this week's reading, Elizabeth and Zechariah name their newborn child according to the instructions of the angel, Gabriel. They broke with tradition, and named the child John, recognizing him as the gift of a gracious God.

The naming of John the Baptist reminds us not only that our names have meaning, but also they uniquely identify us as children of God. Like John the Baptist, we are born with a purpose and called to be faithful to God's plan for us.

Reflect on the words of the prophet Isaiah: "Thus says the Lord, fear not: I have called you by your name; you are mine."

Imagine God calling out your name. What is He asking and how will you answer?
