What are your motives? In other words, why do you do what you do?
This week's readings give us the opportunity to examine our motives in life. Why do we obey the 10 commandments and follow the rules of society?
Moses reminds us that in being loyal to God and His commandments we show others the path to right living. Religion is not about blindly following rules, but about loving one another.
If we simply go through the motions without thinking about our motives, we are in danger of losing the meaning in our lives...our purpose. We lose focus on God's will.
Take some time this week to think about motives. Are we honoring God or are we focused on ourselves? When we follow God's plan – when we act out of love – our motives will always be right.
