Christians are called to be disciples of Jesus, faithfully living His Word in their daily lives.
The readings this week remind us that discipleship is not always easy.
Isaiah describes being beaten, insulted and spit upon because of his devotion to God. But rather than compromise his faith, Isaiah "set his face like flint" against those who opposed him and remained firmly committed to God's Word.
Hopefully, our faith today will not draw such severe hostility and abuse. But when we do face ridicule or discrimination, God is always near to help us stand strong.
The reward for doing so is the ultimate triumph of God's love. Remember what Isaiah tells us: "The Lord God is my help; who will prove me wrong?"
