No doubt, we live in a competitive world. That's why this week’s Scripture readings can teach us so much about what our faith has to say about competition.
Contrary to popular belief, competition does not always bring out the best in us. We can compete for the biggest house...the fanciest car...the highest office, and we may win- but it is almost always at someone else's expense.
Jesus tells us that God gave us our talents and gifts to build up the kingdom of God. He demonstrates that competition is good when it enriches the lives of others, when we work together as a team and build up community.
The next time you find yourself in a competitive situation, stop and think about what is driving you. How you might turn that competition into cooperation that will benefit everyone involved.
