Faith Moment Values 2

Transcript of audio:

Most of us would probably say we have good values. We obey the Commandments. We attend faith services. We pray.

So the Scripture readings this week may surprise us when we learn that these things are not enough. We need to do more. We may think we are living right, but if we put too high a value on things like status, power and wealth, something is lacking.

In the Gospel, Jesus says, "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."

What He means is that God's promise of eternal life in heaven requires us to be willing to give of ourselves and to share our talents and possessions with others in need here on earth.  To not hold on too tightly to them.

That is the supreme value we should strive for – following the example of Jesus and putting the needs of others before our own.
