We learn more about empathy in this week's Gospel as Jesus observes a poor widow giving her last coins to the community treasury.
Jesus tells us that, even though she gave just a few cents, the widow contributed more than the wealthiest people. In need herself, she cared for the needs of others.
The widow gave all that she had, with authentic empathy. Her example shows that true caring comes from the heart, identifying with those in need and being there with loving support. We are called to follow that example to the degree that we can.
We are also reminded that God has empathy for us. God is always aware of what we need, and always there with loving support.
