What binds families together? This past Sunday, Catholics celebrated the Feast of the Holy Family, and the scripture readings offered us great lessons on living as family.
To begin with we learn that families should be bound by unconditional love and unity. In other words heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience should describe how we relate to each other.
The fact is, we are all called to be God's children so that as His children we not only experience His unconditional love but become ourselves imitators of that love.
In short, the family lessons in this weeks readings are intended to be applied to each one of us in all our relationships – our families, our places of worship, our workplaces, and our communities.
May we all try a little harder to live as family in the New Year ahead...with compassion, kindness, and most of all, love.
