Blessed Pope John Paul II once said, “To maintain a joyful family requires much from both the parents and the children. Each member of the family has to become, in a special way, the servant of the others.”
This wisdom from His Holiness nicely sums up what we should learn from this week's readings.
God calls us all to community...to family...and as our Father, He sets the example of how we are to serve one another in love...kindness...humility...and patience.
Every member of a family is, in some unique way, to be the servant of the others, a service which necessarily includes a willingness to forgive one another, even as God has forgiven us. No matter what our faith tradition, when these qualities are actively practiced the peace of God will rein in our hearts and in our communities.
If we follow God’s example and do these things, we will be seen by others to belong to God’s family.
