What nourishes you? A warm family meal, a good book, a rewarding job, time spent with friends? We often seek nourishment through our worldly desires, and the world offers many things that seem to fulfill us. But is this enough?
In this week’s Gospel of Luke, Jesus provides physical nourishment in bread and fish for over 5000 people. The disciples didn’t know how it would be possible to feed so many people with so little food, and found the task overwhelming. But the nourishment Jesus provided was abundant and fulfilling.
God is asking us to open our eyes and our hearts to see how He wants to nourish us. He wants us to know true fulfillment in this world, and to be able to enjoy the eternal nourishment He promises us. When we feel overwhelmed by the burdens of life, we need only to seek God’s nourishment to carry us through.
