We can learn a lot about ourselves, and the importance of forgiveness, from the scripture readings this week. Like David in the first reading, sometimes we need someone close to us to help us look deeply into ourselves to see what needs forgiving.
The prophet Nathan reminded David to think of all the good that God had done for him. In forgetting all this good, David had turned away from God and made many major mistakes. When David acknowledged his sins, he was met with God's forgiveness.
By keeping our focus on all the good that God has given us, we may more easily overcome the temptations that we are faced with in our daily lives.
Ultimately, sin is always an act of turning away from God. But it is God's never-ending love for us that makes forgiveness possible.
Take some time this week to thank God for His love and gift of forgiveness.
