New England Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, may not be the best example of persistence to use in a rival football town like Buffalo. But local fans may relish the fact that Brady was once a lowly seventh on the quarterback depth chart in college. He was a sixth round pick in the NFL draft. And he started as a fourth string quarterback.
As we know, persistence paid off for Brady. Five trips to the Super Bowl, with three victories. Super Bowl MVP numerous times. Eight Pro Bowls. Tom’s story, like the scripture readings this week, show us that persistence – in prayer, faith and life – leads to the many good things God wants for us. Even in difficult circumstances, God’s Spirit of mercy and love strengthens us to go on.
So let’s commit today to daily prayer and persistence in our relationships – with God and one another.
