In the Gospel reading from Luke, the apostles ask Jesus to "strengthen their faith." Essentially, Jesus tells them their faith will grow if they follow His example.
In addition to caring for those in need, following the example of Jesus meant that the apostles would need to seek times of silence in order to pray and reconnect with the Father.
The Bible is full of examples when Jesus went off to a "deserted place" to pray in silence. Jesus needed to get away from the crowds and all the busyness. In those quiet places and moments he was able to strengthen His relationship with the Father, and be strengthened for His mission.
Silence can be a powerful way to increase our faith. So grow still and listen.
We can always use a few minutes each day to be silent so that we can listen to God and recharge our faith in His boundless love.
