In our society today, rule by a king seems to be an outdated concept.
The readings from yesterday's Feast of Christ the King completely redefine our concept of a king. Christians believe God, who created all things, provided us with the King to lead us, namely Jesus Christ, his son. Unlike the usual image of a king, Jesus doesn't sit on a throne; he was born in a stable. He does not conquer lands or territories; he establishes a kingdom of mercy, love and forgiveness, winning souls. To Christians he is the king of kings who suffered for us, poured out his life and was victorious over death so that we may have eternal life.
Imagine if all those in authority followed the example of Jesus Christ, our King?
