Are you ready?
The readings from this first Sunday of Advent remind us of the importance of being prepared. But we're not talking about holiday preparations.
During a season where so much of society is caught up in overindulgent commercialism, we may tend to forget that Advent is really intended to be a time of quiet preparation. It is a time of readiness during which we make ourselves available to hear what God is telling us about how He wants us to live our lives, using Jesus as our example.
This Advent, be flexible. Try freeing up schedules and putting aside some of the seasonal indulgences to make yourself more available – to God, to family and loved ones. Slow down and remember the true meaning of the season. That will help you be truly prepared for Christmas.
