The Advent wreath is a wonderful Christian tradition that helps in our spiritual preparation for Christmas. The four candles of the evergreen wreath represent the four Sundays of Advent. Their light, a reminder to Christians that Jesus Christ is the light of the world. One candle is lit each Sunday during Advent until all four are lit in the final week. The light grows brighter as we get closer to Christmas, just as the light of Christ grows brighter in our lives as we grow closer to him. Lit on the third Sunday of Advent, the pink candle reminds us to continue to be patient, we are almost there. Christmas – and the coming joy of Jesus’ birth – is near.
Take time to reflect on the Advent wreath. Let it be a reminder to you to practice patience and love as you prepare for the season.
