We all want what is best for our families. Recently the closing of some local Catholic schools and parishes may have caused discomfort. We should understand that the process is about strengthening our faith communities. St. Paul's letter in this week's second reading may help give us some perspective. He reminds us that Jesus Christ is the foundation of our faith. We belong to our faith communities because of our shared belief in Jesus. We are united together in Christ, in the same mind, heart and purpose.
Ideally, all of our Catholic schools would have waiting lists and our churches would be filled to capacity. The reality is that this is, unfortunately, not the case. Consolidating schools, therefore, is about revitalizing Catholic education. We, as individual families, and as a faith community, want what is best for our children. The best, Christ-centered education possible. Let there be no divisions among us, as St. Paul urges. Let us move forward, united in Christ.
