Did you see anything different in your travels today? Did you notice the man with a disability struggling to cross the street? Were you aware of the people standing in line at the food pantry? Did the senior citizen sitting at the bus stop, perhaps lonely, catch your attention?
Our readings this week challenge us to come out of the darkness of ignorance and sharpen our vision of God's love and guiding light. Jesus shows us in the gospel, and calls us to, to be open to the needs of others and reach out a healing hand whenever possible. That includes people of different cultures, faiths, and needs.
Our blindness or lack of openness may be rooted in prejudice, fear of change or the unknown. But we miss so much when we are locked within ourselves. As the Bible says, "live as children of light, for light produces every kind of goodness."
