As we celebrate Easter, all Christians can easily identify with the apostles who arrived at the empty tomb of the risen Christ. The apostles saw and believed – they knew something had happened, but they didn’t understand yet that Jesus had risen from the dead. They came to understand – to fully believe – when they had a personal encounter with the risen Lord.
That was two millennia ago. You and I are not likely to see the risen Jesus here. But that does not mean we are incapable of encountering him. Christians believe we are given the opportunity to encounter the risen Christ in the Eucharist, the Lord’s Supper. For us, the Eucharist is a gift from Christ, given to nourish and sustain us in faith. It is a pledge of Christ's love and remains at the center of the Church's life.
May our faith in the risen Lord continue to grow each time we celebrate the Eucharist.
