Transcript of audio:
This past Sunday, Christians celebrated Pentecost, commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples of Jesus. As the Spirit came to rest on each disciple, they began to speak in different languages. The Spirit enabled them to proclaim the word of God to a large, diverse crowd and everyone understood them in their native language.
While we may not experience the descent in a dramamtic way as tongues of fire, we are empowered by that same Holy Spirit calling us to bring others to unity and equality with one another. The Sprit dwells within each of us, calling us out beyond the closed doors we often hide behind as disciples of Christ. And we are animated by the Spirit to speak, act and serve, so that the Word of God will be heard and there will be a oneness in that same spirit of love, despite diversity of language, gender, age or cultures.
Ask yourself 'How will I speak those words of unity and equality today?'
