We all know how difficult it can be to deal with the differences of others. However, it is in this rich diversity of others that we recognize our unity, our oneness with one another.
Listening to St. Paul in his second letter to the Corinthians he speaks of an original unity that comes from God our creator but that it is expressed in the diversity of all creation. The three persons of the Holy Trinity, a unity and diversity – the Father who creates; the Son who redeems; and the Holy Spirit who sanctifies.
The divine expression of the oneness of God manifests the way we should live with one another, with our differences and in unity. In the Father, we are called to be merciful and gracious. In the Son, we are called to be self-giving. And in the Spirit, we are made holy, sanctified, animated to bring the Good News to all. A model of life for you and for me that flows from our common origin in God as Father, Son, and Spirit.
