Canon Law: Its Foundations and Pastoral Applications
Presented by Rev. Robert W. Zilliox, Jr., MDiv, JCL
Registration: 8:30 a.m. | Program: 8:45 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
This workshop will seek to provide the students with a better overview and understanding of the organization of the 1983 Code of Canon Law. It will offer a deeper understanding of the relationship between theology and canon law and the underlying values that serve as the underpinnings of the various canons as found in canon law. Attendees will be given the keys to a pastoral application of the essential elements of canon law in relationship to the sacraments, temporal goods and structures of the church in light of the rights and obligations of the faithful.
Having graduated from Christ the King Seminary in 2008, Fr. Zilliox was asked in 2010 to go on for further studies in the discipline of canon law at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. After earning his J.C.L. there in the spring of 2013, Fr. Zilliox was appointed to the tribunal for the Diocese of Buffalo as Judge and Defender of the Bond. He assists as a canonical advisor to various groups within the diocese and occasionally gives lectures and teaches as an Adjunct Professor of Canon Law at the Seminary.
