"Praying With Music: How Music can Draw us Deeper Into Prayer and Liturgy"
Presented by Alan Lukas, Director of Music, Diocese of Buffalo & Christ the King Seminary
The hymns we sing in church are most often poems set to music. But do we ever take the opportunity to pray these poems? Do we answer the questions they present? Do we endeavor to succeed in the evangelizing mission they put forth? The hymns we sing can be a powerful tool in our prayer life. This retreat experience will give us the opportunity to break open the hymn texts that we sing so that we can “sing the church”, not just “sing at church”.
Alan Lukas is the Director of Music for the Diocese of Buffalo, and Director of Music and full time faculty member at Christ the King Seminary. In addition, he has been involved in parish music ministry since his early days of high school and continues that parish ministry today at All Saints Church in Buffalo and St. Paul’s Church in Kenmore. He is the founder and director of the 60-voice Buffalo Diocesan Festival Chorus which sings for major diocesan liturgical celebrations at St. Joseph Cathedral. Alan has degrees in music from The Catholic University of America and SUNY at Fredonia.
