clientuploads/News Images/Deacon Ordination 3 25 14.jpgMen interested in discerning a vocation to the permanent diaconate are invited to information sessions in April and May.  As members of the clergy, permanent deacons serve the faithful through the corporal and spiritual works of mercy and can officiate at weddings, baptisms, funerals and wakes as well as preach.
Christ the Seminary will host sessions on Saturday, Apr. 5, at 9 a.m., and Saturday, May 3, at 9 a.m. in the Classroom building.  Another session will be held at St. Joseph-University Parish in Buffalo in the Parish Center on Wednesday, Apr. 16, at 7 p.m.
During Inquiry, applicants are engaged in interviews and an introductory course in Church Teachings.  Following Inquiry, applicants to the Diaconal Formation program go through a year of Aspirancy where they test the waters of graduate studies in theology and monthly weekends of formation. Upon acceptance as a candidate into the program, candidates continue both the formation weekends and graduate studies for the next three years.

Spouses participate in some of the classes as well and are a key part of the deacon's ministry. Spousal involvement is considered so crucial, in fact, that a candidate’s spouse must provide written consent for the candidate to be ordained.
Interested men and wives are required to attend a session to be considered for the program.  Prior registration is required by contacting Deacon John Leardon ( or Deacon Greg Feary (
