On Monday, Sept. 24, Rev. Joseph C. Gatto, president-rector of Christ the King Seminary, on the advice of his doctors, requested from Bishop Malone a temporary leave of absence from his ministry for personal health reasons.
We learned yesterday that the diocese has received an allegation regarding Fr. Joe and that they, the diocese, will investigate that thoroughly. We understand that Bishop Malone has now placed Fr. Joe on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
Bishop Malone has asked me to assume the role of interim president-rector in Father Joe's absence, which I have accepted.
Father Joe has achieved great success since being named president-rector in June of 2014 and the seminary has flourished under his leadership.
He has assembled a solid leadership team, dedicated faculty and staff, who will carry on in his absence.
He is a good person and a great priest, who is in need of rest and healing at this time. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.
We at the seminary encourage all the faithful of western New York, as the People of God, to keep their eyes fixed on the risen Christ and the healing He brings to the world.
Please keep Father Joe and the entire community of Christ the King Seminary in your prayers.
